Wanderess

I dream of wandering.
To travel on feet and hooves,
to throwaway my chains and wires,
To wander is my dream,
to be free and alive.
To get lost among dust and scenery,
loose contact with humans and laws.
I dream of a land uncivilized,
raw and virginal its beauty,
I dream of running against its winds,
hair astray and eyes wide with wonder.
To sleep in strange lodges
and feel at home in back alleys.
To sip on strange wines and leave no name behind.
Let no one know who I am,
let no man pin me down,
let no mother chide me in.
To set fire to my dreams and run away.
To sleep with the stars above and grasses below.
I want to chase the moon and howl,
I want to strip free of my civility,
to become a wilderness,
to become a wanderess,
to belong to no city, to belong to no man.
